ICE-2 Cranial Nerves

G.003 is on the ground level near the south east end of the building. The closest entrance is Bridgepoint Drive's "Ambulatory Care" entrance.

M.126 is on the Main floor (where Tim Horton's is) at the opposite end of the building (north west end) in room M.126.


Today we will be reviewing components of the neurological exam, including:

Cognitive/ Mental Status

Cranial Nerves

Motor exam

Sensory exam

Cerebellar exam/coordination

Functional exam


We will be focusing on cranial nerve exam in detail, practicing techniques and visiting patients with cranial nerve deficits. We will also be reviewing aphasia.


You will need the following equipment:

reflex hammer

pen light (can be on your phone)

snellen chart (can be on your phone)

tuning fork (512 Hx)

different scents (coffee, cinnamon, etc)

cotton wisp

tongue depressor

+/- neurotip (will be provided)


Approximate timetable:

8-830 introductions, review of components of neuro exam

830-1000: review of CN's, MCQ quiz

10-11: break/practice

11-12: ward/ wrapup and review of next week
